The VCAY New Orleans is an adaptive reuse project that transforms an abandoned midcentury modern office tower into a vibrant, contemporary hospitality destination. The 12-story structure, originally constructed in the 1960s as a bank and office building, was once celebrated for its expansive glass façade and progressive design. Leveraging federal and state historic tax credits, it will be rejuvenated into a sleek 179-suite hotel with sweeping views of downtown New Orleans.
AQ Studios’ design for this 91,600 square foot boutique hotel creates 39 units, each composed of four to six bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms that are organized around shared living and kitchen spaces. This flexible layout supports both individual suite rentals and full-unit occupancy, accommodating a range of guest experiences and ideal for destination weddings and other group travel.
The building’s porte cochere and striking lobby have been carefully restored, as has its original window wall system which maximizes natural light and panoramic city views. New amenities created for this property include an in-ground swimming pool and sun deck, lounge with golf simulator, fitness room, on-site valet parking, and a dog park. By integrating contemporary hospitality needs within a historically significant framework, this project created a dynamic urban destination while preserving its midcentury identity.
