Queensland School of Medicine wanted to expand their locally available academic resources, and AQ Studios helped deliver a state-of-the-art education facility. Renovating existing shell space, the new Simulation Lab at the Queensland school of medicine features innovative simulation technology to train the next generation of healthcare professionals. This project includes two fully functional OR rooms, with one featuring two surgical stations for larger groups, that can be configured in a variety
of ways for different lessons and training exercises. Everything found in a conventional OR is built to the same specification in this advanced teaching space. This includes functioning scrub sinks, medical gas systems, control stations, and customizable equipment to name a few. Two fully functional ICU rooms are available for training, both featuring advanced human simulators. In addition, a dozen exam rooms with observation windows are integrated throughout the facility to provide maximum flexibility and training opportunities. This facility is fully networked to allow remote viewing and communication, enabling web-based learning for the Queensland school students. Through a collaborative design process, AQ Studios delivered an innovative learning center to teach future healthcare professionals.

AQ Studios went through a highly coordinated design process, interfacing between numerous medical supply companies such as Stryker and Johnson & Johnson to provide the newest technology and innovations to the Queensland school. AQ Studios has extensive experience working with the leading medical supply manufacturers, ensuring seamless procurement and integration of advanced systems, even in challenging renovation jobs. Our experiences outfitting large medical and surgical facilities allows our firm to use previous lessons learned and increase efficiency in design and planning.

The use of color and way finding elements create well-ordered, but playful, spaces that complement the industrial past of the building. The second-floor program includes administrative offices and a conference room, allowing staff areas to prepare lessons. The main lobby accesses a connector bridge across Jefferson Highway allowing students and staff easy walkability between North and South Campus.
